〈 CHARACTER INFO 〉
CHARACTER NAME: Lester Papadopoulos (Apollo)
CHARACTER AGE: 4,612 (physically: 16)
SERIES: Percy Jackson & the Olympians
CHRONOLOGY:post-the Hidden Oracle mid-the Burning Maze
CLASS: Registered Hero
HOUSING: no preference!
BACKGROUND: Riordan wiki link!
PERSONALITY: Lester hovers between two distinct (yet similar) guises: Apollo, his former self, and Lester, the sixteen year old form he was banished into. As Apollo, he was was cocky, arrogant, and eternally self-centered (unsurprising, considering that he drove the sun across the sky in his grand chariot). He praised himself to the sun and back, in whatever form of poetry he deemed most appropriate, and he would "reward" people for their deeds with god-hood, or immortality, or whatever struck him as most appropriate. He loved with all of his heart, but he also acted upon what he thought was best. Even if that meant killing his lover, or cursing a man to behead his brother. He acted without remorse (and would only come to regret and atone for those deeds as Lester).
So fittingly, Lester has absolutely none of those abilities to back up his arrogance. He's fallen from grace (like Icarus from the sun). His emotions are heightened as a teenager, and he can swing rapidly from super happy to super upset in mere milliseconds. He struggles with his gangly, awkward physical form, and with the blisters that appeared on his hands from constantly strumming his instruments. He struggles with doing basic chores. He struggles with well, pretty much everything else under the sun. He whines loudly about how he should be more appreciated for doing basic deeds (and if he knew about the gold star meme, he'd want one for doing the bare minimum expected of him).
However, in these struggles, he's gained greater empathy not only for his Oracle but also for his demigod master Meg and his children. He can place himself in their shoes, and his worldview's expanding to include those who didn't share his life experiences (or worse: those who eschewed the godly gifts he had granted them).
Being mortal is hard. His memory's all fuzzy; he actually needs to eat and sleep like a human; he can't heal as fast; and most depressingly, he has to work to regain his rightful godhood. While Lester isn't anywhere near his former glory, he's also starting to understand that maybe his punishment was his father's way of a reality check.
He's still retained the centuries of experience that he had as a god, and he's more than quick to use his intelligence if it'll get him out of a tight situation. Lester will be the first to use himself as bait or distraction, especially if it'll help his companions get the edge on their enemies. In this way, he's more resourceful than the average kid will give him credit for, and he doesn't hesitate to play dirty if it means getting him and his friends out safe.
Overall, Lester may still be arrogant (because he can't quite erase that part of him, not yet), and he may be an overeager, bubbly kid, but he has a heart of gold and a heroic instinct to do what's right - even if it may take a lot of digging to find it underneath all of his blustering and posturing.
POWER:
* Godhood for the Greater Good: As part of his mortal punishment, Apollo can only utilize his godly powers (ie: super-strength, prophecy, enhanced healing, photokinesis) when he's performing selfless acts and/or a cause that is greater than him. With great power comes even greater intentions, basically.
* Audiokinesis: The ability to control sound waves and music. Under normal circumstances, this manifests in Apollo's ability to master every instrument and/or form of song (an ability he retained even after becoming mortal). In MoM, his full powers will return when he's performing an action on behalf of someone else - he can alter sound vibrations and unleash his own form of a supersonic cry. He can also curse someone to speak entirely in rhyme (should the player grant permission first).
* Fire Immunity: In MoM, Apollo will regain his previous immunity to fire and/or all forms of heat. He will still be affected by temperature, and can sense when something's hot or cold - but as the god of the Sun, he's impervious to burns and any sort of fire-inflicted injuries. (Not that he'll be aware of this in-game.)
